My Finnair flight from Hong Kong to Helsinki (AY 102)

Since I was using Asia Miles to redeem my flight, I was not able to get the direct flight from Singapore to Helsinki, hence I had to take CX to Hong Kong and transit there. No biggie for me since I was just starting on my holiday and transitting in Hong Kong allows me to arrive in Helsinki in the afternoon.

This flight is served by the new A350-900 (the same plane they use to fly to Singapore) and the business class seat is wonderfully configured in a 1-2-1 layout.

The flight departed on time at 9:10am and we were offered a selection of drinks (I chose the blueberry cocktail drink which was amazing) after take off, together with a very yummy appetiser.

We were then served lunch, which started with Szechuan flavoured hot smoked salmon and coleslaw.

For the main course, I chose the Atlantic cod with garlic and parsley cream sauce with potato wedges and vegetables. The other choices were a Chinese style braised beef with steamed rice and a Chef’s special (which I forgot to ask what it was).

Dessert was Haagen Dazs ice cream. Blueberries & cream flavor. Very yummy.

And before landing we were offered a light meal. I chose the chicken with carrot and mushrooms, shrimps and fried rice. It was a little too salty for my liking so I didn’t finish it. The other choice would have been braised pork with apple, deep fried potato cubes and vegetables. In retrospect, this sounded much better.

All in all, it was a very comfortable flight. The crew seemed to be all Hong Kongers, so it kinda felt like I was flying on CX metal. Seat was very comfortable with a full flat bed and I managed to get around 5 hours of sleep despite a crying baby seated just behind me!
